Mice don't live very long--2 or 3 months. Hamsters are vicious and will bite at anything in their cage. But pet rats are perfect! They learn tricks, they are intelligent, affectionate, will sit on your shoulder, cheap to feed--just get pellets and they live 3 to 5 years
